The Telegraph profiles the Wurzels:

On May 5 1974, however, tragedy struck. Cutler was killed in a car crash on the way back from a gig in Hereford. As well as being personally bereaved, the Wurzels were now without their songwriter.

Like Joy Division after the death of Ian Curtis, they elected to keep going.

  1. Don’t till the Wurzels. Fabulous band.

Market Gardener is possibly the finest ode to amusingly shaped vegetables that has ever been recorded. While Farmer Bill’s Milkman documents the classic failure to distinguish between bull and cow at milking time. We’ve all been there. And, of course I’ll never get a cider here provides one of the greatest rhyming couplets of all time: “You don’t get surprises living in Devizes.”

Adge Cutler was the Bob Dylan of the Mendips.
